How to Explain To your Cousins What you do, A Flowchart for Crew
Is your role above the line?
YES
Then your cousins already know what you do. See you on the red carpet.
NO
Are you a production Assistant?
Tell them: “I make sure everyone has what they need when they need it. 95% of the time it’s a missing walkie-talkie.”
UPM?
Ask your cousins why they’re standing around asking questions while you’re burning daylight.
Prop master?
Say: “If it’s held, thrown, or used in a scene, I’ve worried about it. A lot.”
Teamster?
Tell them: "I've merged a 5-ton grip truck onto the 101 freeway more times than I can count."
Grip?
Tell them: "I'm a human Bop-It. I can rig it, roll it, clamp it."
Gaffer?
Explain: “I wait for the DP to decide to light it the way I wanted to all along.”
SOUNDIE?
Tell them: “I make sure you can hear every line, even the ones the actors mumble.”
About CREW APPRECIATION DAY
October 4th marks Crew Appreciation Day, a holiday recognizing the indispensable contributions of crew members to the production industry. It’s no secret that the past couple years haven’t been an easy time for our crews, and on 10-4, Wrapbook is proud to join in celebrating the hardworking people who keep our productions rolling.
